Construction on the regional sports complex in Seabourne Creek Park is taking shape.

Bass Construction, the contractor on the project, is constructing three Little League baseball fields, one girls’ softball field, and one multi-use football/soccer field which are all tentatively scheduled to be completed by Little League’s opening day in 2010.

Parks and Recreation Director Darren McCarthy reports “the construction project is on schedule and that the fields are expected to be seeded this week. Fort Bend County started the road work just this past Monday; the backstop netting will be going up next week. The project is moving so quickly out there that we are seeing changes daily.”

The Bass Construction project report of June 24, noted that asphalt is to be laid this week and punch-out of the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.

The $2.5 million sports complex was prioritized as the “number one immediate-term priority” in the City’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan, and the specific needs for the overall project are outlined in Fort Bend County’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master plan, as well as the City’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

The project, which is part of the 2006 bond program, began in April.
